Police say a Kenner man found himself behind bars after a series of unfortunate events. Throme LaCroix, 20, was arrested Saturday after authorities say he accidentally blasted a friend in the arm with a shotgun, slammed his car into a pick-up truck while fleeing the scene and left behind a marijuana plant later discovered by authorities.

The shooting occurred early Saturday morning at LaCroix’s apartment, located at 4520 Williams Blvd., Kenner, according to arrest reports. LaCroix was showing off a 12-gauge, double-barrelled shotgun to a friend about 2:30 a.m. when it accidentally discharged.

The pellets struck the friend in his right bicep, causing “extensive injury,” the arrest report said. While those present called for help and tried to tend to the wounded man, LaCroix allegedly took off in his girlfriend’s car. But while fleeing the parking lot, he smashed into a pick-up truck, the arrest report said.

LaCroix didn’t stop. He allegedly drove on for another five blocks to an auto parts store in the 4000 block of Williams Boulevard. He was eventually arrested by Kenner Police and booked Saturday with negligent injuring and illegal use of a weapon.

Investigators obtained a warrant to search LaCroix’s apartment for the shotgun. But their hunt also turned up a month-old marijuana plant being nurtured by lamps in his living room, the arrest report said. LaCroix was rebooked Sunday with hit and run and possession/manufacturing of marijuana for distribution.

LaCroix was released Sunday from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $25,500 bond. His injured friend is recovering following surgery, according to the arrest report. The friend’s condition was not available Monday.
