School Bus Shot as Crime in New Orleans Rises

The NOPD is investigating a Monday afternoon shooting in Treme, where a man was injured and a bullet hit a school bus, shattering a window. A girl aboard the bus was cut by the flying glass, according to officer Frank Robertson III.

No one on the bus was injured by gunfire, Robertson said.

About 5 p.m., a man was shot in the hip and leg at the corner of North Claiborne Avenue and Iberville Street. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Robertson said.

Soon after the man was shot, the windshield of a school bus at the corner of North Claiborne and Orleans Avenue was hit by a bullet. Flying glass from the windshield injured a girl on the bus. She was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Police are investigating whether the shooters were in a vehicle, or on foot. The ages of the injured man and the girl were not immediately available.
